MIDSUMMER
A new and re-envisioned version of the original adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (and other plays...) that I staged at the Yale Summer Cabaret in 2015; also the first production by Tiltyard. A year after the original production, it felt right and necessary to re-examine the world of the play, to go deeper into its shadows... Make it grittier, not less magical but a little less whimsical, more reflective of a familiarly chaotic, degraded universe. It was the right direction to head in, and a project that we continued and deepened with the 2022 production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

HENRY IV, PARTS 1 & 2
by William Shakespeare
adapted by Sara Holdren
This adaptation—which combines the plays into a single evening of performance, about 2 hours and 45 minutes long—was my undergraduate thesis, which I was lucky enough to get a second chance to direct "out in the world" after graduating. It combines text from Richard II, Henry V, and Holinshed's Chronicles with the texts of the Henrys in order to create a sense of context — of a vast, ongoing story with many chapters, many characters, many joys and heartbreaks.
